Overview

Is the AARP® Travel Rewards Mastercard® worth it?

This card is great for...

Flights and hotels

Car rentals on trips

No-fee travel spending

This card is worth a look if you want a no-annual-fee option that gives extra cash back on common travel purchases like airfare, hotels, and car rentals, with a small bump on dining as well. For someone who takes a few trips a year and prefers cash rewards over points, that setup is easy to understand and easy to use.

The tradeoff is that its everyday value is limited. Outside of travel and dining, you are only earning 1% back, and the card does not list meaningful travel perks or ongoing benefits to broaden its appeal. If you spend heavily on travel but do not care about lounges, credits, or transfer partners, it can fit nicely. If you want one card to cover both travel and daily spending, most readers will want a stronger base earn rate elsewhere.

MaxRewards

MaxRewards Verdict

A sensible fit for occasional travelers who want straightforward cash back on flights, hotels, and car rentals with no annual fee. Its main limitation is simple: once you move beyond travel purchases, the rewards are fairly ordinary.

Rewards

This card keeps rewards simple: cash back, with its strongest returns tied to travel purchases and a smaller bonus on dining. The key question is whether you spend enough on trips for those 3% categories to matter, since everyday purchases fall back to 1%.
