Fifth Third Secured

The Fifth Third Secured is built for someone focused on rebuilding credit, not earning rewards or travel perks. It works best as a simple starter account for small purchases and on-time payments, rather than as an everyday spending card.

Overview

Is the Fifth Third Secured worth it?

This card is great for...

Building payment history

Small recurring purchases

Secured card beginners

This card is worth considering if your main goal is getting back into the credit system and you want a secured card from a major bank. In that role, the job is straightforward: use it lightly, pay on time, keep your balance low, and let it help rebuild your credit profile.

For most other purposes, it is a weak fit. There are no rewards, no listed benefits, a $24 annual fee, and a 3% foreign transaction fee, so there is not much reason to keep using it once your credit improves. If you need a tool for rebuilding credit, it can do that job, but it is not a card to choose for ongoing value.

MaxRewards Verdict

The Fifth Third Secured makes sense for cardholders who need a basic credit rebuilding tool and are comfortable paying a small annual fee for it. If you want rewards, travel flexibility, or long-term value, this card gives you very little beyond the chance to reestablish credit.
