Overview

Is the PNC Cash Rewards® worth it?

This card is great for...

Gas station spending

Dining and takeout

Grocery store purchases

The PNC Cash Rewards® is worth a look if your monthly spending is centered on gas, restaurants, and groceries and you want a simple cash-back card with no annual fee. The 4% back on gas is the headline feature, and the boosted rates on dining and groceries give it more day-to-day usefulness than a card that only rewards one category.

The main tradeoff is the spending cap. Those bonus categories are limited to the first $8,000 in combined purchases each year, so this card fits moderate everyday spending better than very heavy household budgets. If you spend well past that cap or want strong rewards on general purchases, the 1% rate everywhere else will feel limiting. For the right spender, though, it is an easy card to keep in rotation because it rewards common expenses and does not ask you to offset an annual fee.

MaxRewards

MaxRewards Verdict

A solid no-annual-fee card for drivers and households with regular restaurant and grocery spending. Its value is straightforward, but the capped bonus categories and 1% on everything else make it a better specialist everyday card than an all-in-one wallet choice.

This card keeps things simple: higher cash back in a few everyday categories, then 1% back on everything else. The key question is how much of your spending actually falls into gas, dining, and grocery purchases, and whether you will stay within the annual cap on bonus earnings.
