Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card

Ink Business Preferred is built for businesses that spend heavily in a few specific categories, especially travel, shipping, telecom, and online advertising. It works best as a primary business rewards card for companies that can actually use those bonus categories, not as a simple everyday card for all spending.

Is the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card worth it?

This card is great for...

Online advertising spend

Shipping and travel purchases

Phone bill protection

Yes, for the right business this card is easy to justify. A $95 annual fee is modest for a business card with strong earning on travel, shipping, internet, cable, phone services, and eligible advertising purchases, and the 100,000-point welcome offer is substantial. If your business regularly spends in those categories, the rewards can outpace many no-annual-fee options, and the included cell phone protection adds practical value if you pay your monthly bill with the card.

It is less compelling for businesses with broad, uncategorized spending or very little travel and marketing expense. Outside the bonus categories, the return is only average, so many cardholders will do better pairing this with another card for general purchases. This is a strong fit for businesses with clear category spend, but not a one-card solution for every company.

MaxRewards Verdict

The Ink Business Preferred makes the most sense for businesses with meaningful spend in Chase's bonus categories, especially online ads, travel, shipping, and telecom. Its main limitation is simple: if your spending falls outside those lanes, the rewards rate is much less interesting.

Rewards

Rewards percent based on a valuation of 1.25¢ per Ultimate Rewards point

This card earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points, with most of its value tied to a handful of business-friendly categories. The key question is not whether the rates look good on paper, but whether your company actually spends enough in those areas to make this your go-to card.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Ink Business Preferred earns 3x points on purchases made in five key business categories: travel, shipping, internet, cable and phone services, and advertising on social media and search engines. The 3x rate applies to the first $150,000 in combined spending across all five categories each account anniversary year, after which those purchases earn 1x points. Unlike adaptive category systems on some other business cards, you don’t need to manually select categories. Any eligible spending in these five areas automatically earns the bonus rate.

Applying for the Ink Business Preferred won't add to your 5/24 count, since Chase business cards don't appear on your personal credit report. However, Chase still requires you to have opened fewer than five credit cards across any bank in the past 24 months to be approved. This makes it a popular choice for rewards enthusiasts who want to keep earning points without using up one of their 5/24 slots.

Yes, one of the card’s biggest advantages is its ability to pool Ultimate Rewards points with a selection of other Chase cards. Points earned on no-fee Chase cards like the Ink Business Cash and Ink Business Unlimited can be transferred to your Ink Business Preferred, where they can be redeemed for travel at a higher value or transferred to Chase's airline and hotel partners. This makes the Ink Business Preferred a powerful hub card for anyone building a multi-card Chase setup.

Both cards are popular mid-tier business cards with great bonus earning potential, but they take different approaches. The Ink Business Preferred has a lower $95 annual fee and earns 3x points on five fixed business categories, while the Amex Business Gold charges $375 annually but automatically earns 4x points on your top two spending categories each month. The Ink Preferred is the stronger choice for businesses that spend heavily in its set categories and want to keep costs low, while the Business Gold is better suited for businesses with varied or shifting spending patterns that want to maximize points automatically.
